Greek
Ελληνικά
Greek forms a branch of Indo-European on its own: it has no close relatives. Its written history spans more than three thousand years, the longest in the whole family. Its alphabet was the first to write vowels as well as consonants, and both the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets descend from it. Modern Greek uses a single accent, on the stressed vowel.
