Polish is the most spoken West Slavic language and the only major Slavic language written in a Latin alphabet extended with ł, ą and ę. It keeps seven cases and a well-earned reputation for consonant clusters, which the digraphs sz, cz, rz and szcz make more daunting to the eye than to the ear. Its written standard has been stable since the sixteenth century.
