Română
Romanian is the only Romance language of eastern Europe, cut off from its sisters by a belt of Slavic languages. That isolation explains its vocabulary, Latin at the core but heavily borrowed from Slavic, Hungarian and Turkish. It kept grammatical cases the other Romance languages lost, and its definite article attaches to the end of the word, as in the neighbouring Balkan languages.
